The newly constituted 7-man Nigeria House Project Committee for the Rio Olympic Games in Brazil, in August, by the minister of youth and sports, Solomon Dalung, is targeting to woo direct foreign investments into Nigeria worth $22 billions as from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
Project Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria House Project, Mohammed B. Abdullahi, stated this yesterday in Abuja after being inaugurated and holding an inaugural meeting with his committee.
Abdullahi said the Olympics present big opportunity for the nation to rebrand and promote Nigeria’s potentials through the showcasing of her rich and diverse cultural heritage and products by giving opportunity to stakeholders to attract skills and investors to Nigeria.
“We are going to use the Olympics to achieve this beginning from the Rio edition in Brazil because Olympics remain a global brand and highest sporting fiesta in the world that brings together about 205 countries. We need to take advantage of such a stage for a global recruitment fare.
This therefore will offer a highly corporate and qualitative hospitality platform to promote tourism, business and investment climate as well as incentives.”
He said for instance, Nigeria has a robust investment drive with Brazil.
“From my records, in 2002, Nigeria generated $1.6 billion in trade from Brazil and in 2012, it rose to $9.1 billion and above. This year we are looking at generating four times that amount through critical sectors like agriculture, solid minerals, transport and aviation, tourism and culture, environment, telecoms/ICT and housing/estate development.”
To this end, Abdullahi said states have a unique opportunity to market their endowments as the Nigeria House will provide a platform for them to showcase and enjoy direct business meetings with prospective investors on daily basis all through the Olympics. “Corporate bodies will also have branding opportunities to participate in the Nigeria House activities because of the huge mileage it presents under the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.” He stated.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria House Project revealed that the twin mission is to win medals for Nigeria and a lot of investments for the Country disclosing that the participation of Nigerians in the diaspora will be critical in the quest to attract direct foreign investment.
Activities according to the CEO will include business conferences, exhibitions, cuisine and fashion shows, tour of Brazil and sightseeing, musical concerts, cultural promotions of our artifacts and arts, sponsorship networking and nightly entertainment.
